T.A.M.A.R. Method Training
The Institute for Shelter Care is leveraging its expertise in trauma and abuse to equip the faithful to respond to the sexually wounded with compassion and wisdom. This training is interactive with group activities and discussion.

About the event
Every 73 seconds, an American is sexually assaulted, and every 9 minutes, that victim is a child. – RAINN, 2019
We have invited Linda Blackiston (Director of Community Engagement for the Institute for Shelter Care) to come to Hope Center Indy to present the Institute for Shelter Care’s 6-hour training on ministering to victims of sexual trauma. This will be on Thurs., April 20, 9am - 3pm in the Prayer Center.
This training is not specific to ministering to residents, but it will discuss ministering to anyone in our families, churches, and communities who comes to us looking for help overcoming sexual trauma. We are inviting church leaders and others in our community to attend the training as well. Below is the course outline.
COURSE OUTLINE
• Abuse and exploitation in scripture • Understanding the trauma of abuse • Types and prevalence of sexual trauma
• Gender and cultural considerations • Stigma and shame
• The T.A.M.A.R. method • When an adult discloses
• When a child discloses • Reporting protocols • The Church as sanctuary
We are asking for a training fee of $25 to cover the cost of lunch and speaker fees.
