When Sara Feasel, the Program Director for Hope Community first learned that Rebekah Torzewski, the Group Volunteer and Adopt-a-Room Coordinator for Hope Center Indy at that time, was interested in serving in a more direct care role with the residents, she immediately invited Rebekah to begin volunteering with Hope Community.
“Rebekah was an answer to a prayer,” says Sara. “She lives out her faith every day as a wife, mother and daughter of God.”
For a year and a half, Rebekah did an amazing job volunteering as the Group Volunteer and Adopt-a-Room Coordinator, but it soon proved she was also a great fit for Hope Community.
“The residents love Rebekah,” says Sara. “She offers unconditional love, godly guidance, and true friendship. She is always ready to jump in wherever needed. I couldn't have asked for a better colleague and servant leader.”
Shortly after Rebekah began volunteering with Hope Community, Hope Center Indy was blessed to secure funding that enabled them to offer her a paid position as the Transitional Coordinator for Hope Community.
“We have the best times together,” says Rebekah of being around the residents. “Especially at our Community Dinners where we bring in someone to teach a new skill or share their life with the residents over dinner.”
In the role of Transitional Coordinator, Rebekah helps develop and monitor individualized plans for each resident that addresses their specific needs and goals, makes sure they have transportation to appointments and other activities, and a number of other tasks.
At the end of the day though, Rebekah notes it’s a two-way street of support and encouragement.
“It’s a joy to work with the Hope Community residents,” says Rebekah. “They have been so gracious and helpful as we grow our program. Often times I learn much more from them than they do me. There is much joy in sharing life and walking with them on their journey.”
