Restoring Hearts, Renewing Lives

What if healing wasn’t just about surviving, but about becoming whole again? As Psalm 23 says, we believe restoration is possible through Christ. Every day, women who have endured unimaginable trauma take brave steps toward freedom, dignity, and renewal. Their stories remind us that healing is not a single moment, but a journey of courage, setbacks, and victories.
That is why restorative care programs like Take Heart Residential at Hope Center Indy must go beyond programmatic offerings. It is important that they are committed to walking with survivors through the healing process, side by side, creating spaces where safety is restored, dignity is renewed, and hope can take root, perhaps for the very first time.
In order to help survivors rebuild their lives and discover, or rediscover, who they are meant to be in Christ, it is essential to approach healing holistically. At Take Heart Residential, every aspect of the program is built around five pillars of healing: spiritual, educational, wellness, financial, and relational. Through each pillar, survivors receive the structure, tools and encouragement they need to recover, thrive, stand tall, dream again, and embrace a future filled with possibility.

For many, the first breakthrough comes in the spirit. Healing the spirit is what anchors lasting transformation. Some survivors arrive at the Hope Center campus holding onto faith, while others are searching, wondering if Jesus could really meet them in their pain. Yet time and again, we see Him draw near in tender, personal ways.
Psalm 34:18, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
Through our prayer center, Bible studies, and community, survivors can experience peace and explore identity. In these moments, hope becomes a living reality, opening the door to connection, meaning, and joy. Nothing is ever expected or forced, yet many find their faith renewed, while others may meet Jesus for the very first time and take the beautiful step of baptism.
But as hearts heal, bodies must also be restored. Like many survivors, I walked through the doors of Hope Center Indy exhausted, hungry, and longing for a safe place simply to breathe. Here, I found rest in a clean bed, nourishment in warm meals, and compassionate care from staff who saw me as more than a number. Slowly, strength began to return. Meeting these most basic needs became the foundation for everything else, a reminder of the worthiness of care and safety. This is the heartbeat of our wellness pillar.
And then comes the renewing of the mind. Trauma leaves scars; it whispers lies of shame and unworthiness. One of the most impactful steps for me was being welcomed into counseling, where I could finally begin to lay down those burdens. With patience and compassion, I started to see myself not as broken, but as deeply valued. Step by step, my confidence grew.

Then, through education and job training, I discovered hidden strengths and began to dream of possibilities I once thought were out of reach. Every milestone, whether small or great, was celebrated. Every step forward became proof that healing is possible and that I can do this. It is my hope that every survivor is met with the same compassion, dignity, and opportunity to reclaim their future.
So, we know that healing is not just about survival. Healing is the restoration of life in all its fullness, where body, mind, and spirit come together in wholeness. When physical safety, mental clarity, and spiritual strength align, we can envision a future filled with dignity and freedom. Each step reinforces the next, creating the foundation for true transformation.
But this journey is not walked alone. It is made possible first and foremost through the healing power of Christ, and through the compassion and generosity of people like you. Whether through prayer, volunteering, or giving, your partnership becomes part of the story of restoration.
